World Wellbeing Week

October 6th - 10th was Stockport Wellbeing Week and there were many events taking place locally to mark the occasion.

Each day of Wellbeing Week had a theme to help improve mental health and wellbeing. The themes were ‘Connect’, ‘Be Active’, ‘Take Notice’, ‘Keep Learning’ and ‘Give’.

Participants at events were encouraged to make a pledge to change something in their life in order to improve their wellbeing.

Friday 10th October was also World Mental Health Day and you may have seen a display near the canteen at Stepping Hill Hospital. This was a joint effort by Jan Sinclair, the hospital’s lifestyle co-ordinator, Healthy Stockport, Life Leisure and the library at Pinewood House.

Staff were on hand to give advice on healthy lifestyles and keeping fit and to encourage people to make pledges. There were also lots of freebies on offer. The library borrowed a selection of books from its Self-Health collection for people to take a look at. These books, and many more, are all available at Stockport public libraries, along with Mood-Boosting books and other resources. You can read more about Self-Health here:

Online videos - the next best thing to attending a training session

Video guides offer a convenient way to refresh your literature searching skills. There are guides for all the stages of any literature search:

·         planning a search

·         choosing a database

·         finding thesaurus terms

·         taking out duplicate references

·         organising your results

·         avoiding plagiarism.

It doesn’t take long to watch one of the guides, typically they last around two minutes. If you can’t come in for a training session, they make a handy alternative option.

Try these video guides from Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, and these from the North West Ambulance Service Library.

If you have any queries about searching the databases, or using any other library resources, please
e-mail us on library.enquiries@stockport.nhs.uk or ring 0161 419 4690.
