MARCH 2009

Hello everyone!
We haven't got any photos of March hares for you, I'm afraid, so here's a scene from the city instead, just for a change...

REMOVABLE MEDIA SECURITY

Devices which can be plugged into PCs and carry patient data represent a risk to the Trust from unauthorised access to such data and potential loss. In 2008, the government issued directives that each organisation should take robust action to prevent loss of confidential patient data. In line with any other Trusts and government departments, Stockport NHS Foundation Trust is taking measures to reduce the risk of this type of loss.

We are introducing controls which will prevent Trust PCs from writing to
removable media such as USB memory sticks. This obviously has implications for the Library and we are in discussion with Information Governance staff to see how we can manage this within the Library for our members, both staff and students. We will keep you posted on this development.

CHARGE INCREASE

Over the last 5 years we have held the price of Inter Library Loans (ILL) and are now subsidising the cost of this service. For 2009 we have provided even more online journal titles which you can download at any time from any internet linked computer. To enable us to keep supporting this level of service we need to increase the price of ILL.

So here is the bad news as from the 1st April 2009

NHS EVIDENCE

Just as you are getting use to the National Library for Health (NLH), it will be changing in line with recommendations in the Darzi report. In the report, High Quality For All, (published June 2008), NICE was asked to establish NHS Evidence.

What is NHS Evidence?
NHS Evidence is a web-based service that will help people find, access and use high-quality clinical and non-clinical evidence and best practice. Built around a powerful search engine, the service will consolidate information from a wide range of sources in one central portal.
The
blueprint for NHS Evidence, outlining the strategic aims of the service, can be found on the NICE website.

How will it affect NLH?
NHS Evidence will build on existing services currently delivered by the National Library for Health. The existing services, collections and staff of NLH will be transferred into the new service.

When will NHS Evidence be available?
NHS Evidence will launch in April 2009. Additional functionality and content will be added in future versions of NHS Evidence. Initially both sites will run in para

NEW A-Z

Remember to look at the A-Z as a number of new journals are now included. In the Foundation Trust it is on the front page of the Knowledge Zone Microsite.

Outside of the Hospital, it can be picked up from www.stockport.nhs.uk , selecting Working for Us and then Library and IT facilities.

NOTE: it now has an excellent new search facility which will allow you to see what journals we have access to which contain a certain word in the title. Try typing in surgery to see the results.
